Greetings,
First, thanks to the developers for making something great for free... I'm always humbled by the Linux world, and I'm sure ZM will be no different... I am brand new to ZM, and managed to get it running on Ubuntu Server. I have no cameras yet, and am just configuring the system for optimal use.
The first question I have is that I have two drives. The server is running on a 1 TB disk, and there is another disk which is 3 TB in size. My thoughts are to have the system run on the smaller disk, and have saved images and videos placed on the 3TB. This should allow a great deal of storage for historical images, etc... What would the guru's recommend for balancing load, etc...?
Are there any short term things which should stay on the 1TB, and other things I should send off to the 3TB? Like using the 1TB for a scratch disk, and saving off to the other drive...
And the biggie... How do I set up the system to point the necessary paths to the 3TB? What I read was a little cryptic, and I could use some help... The instructions say "The directory you specify here cannot be outside the web root. This is a common mistake. Most users should never change this value. If you intend to record events to a second disk or network share, then you should mount the drive or share directly to the ZoneMinder events folder or follow the instructions in the ZoneMinder Wiki titled Using a dedicated Hard Drive."
From what I'm reading, I'm assuming I should make a path on the 3TB and edit FSTAB to mount the path on the 3TB to the location ZM uses on the 1TB? Or am I misunderstanding?
Thanks in advance,
Steven
Changing Storage Location
Re: Changing Storage Location
One good way to use another storage device is to mount that device with systemd. My preference is to use Ubuntu 16.04 with Zoneminder 1.30.4 and a systemd mount. I set up a Dell a week ago with a 250 GIG drive for the OS and database and a 1 TB drive for event storage. Took me a bit over 20 minutes to install. The advantage of using systemd like this is that Zoneminder will not start if the other drive is not mounted. Prevents data loss.
See the instructions here for Ubuntu/Zoneminder install: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Ubuntu_Serv ... e_easy_way
See here for the systemd mount: https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Common_Issu ... ive_or_NAS
Install Ubuntu to your smaller drive and set up Zoneminder. Then do the systemd mount.

Re: Changing Storage Location
I have managed to change the storage location successfully. In my case a USB drive has been used to store zoneminder events on the USB drive. The following official zoneminder web was useful in achieving my target . https://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/la ... drive.html
The procedure I have followed is described in this web post . https://bkjaya.wordpress.com/2018/08/23 ... -computer/
I have given the above link as the steps are little bit too long to be included in this post.
