Upgraded from 1.30 to 1.32 (Also upgraded Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04) - High CPU with zmaudit.pl

For starters, ZoneMinder 1.32 looks great, keep up the great work!

This past weekend I upgraded my server from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, all went well. In doing this upgrade I also moved to ZoneMinder 1.32 from 1.30. The upgrade went well, everything came up just fine, even my old events are present.

Now for my issue, zmaudit is consuming 30% cpu on one of my cores and a good bit more disk IO. It seems like zmaudit kicks off and runs for about an hour and half, this seems to occur every 2 hours. I do use a dedicated drive for my events. I have RUN_AUDIT enabled and OPT_FAST_DELETE is disabled. The issue seems to be related to the purge filter that I have (if I remove the filter the issue goes away). Any help resolving this issue would be appreciated.

I think I may go in a different direction with this issue, I am going to give fast delete another try. I restored the original "PurgeWhenFull" filter, set it to 80%. We will see how this goes. I will follow up tomorrow on the system performance.

That would explain it, thank you sir! I disabled fast deletes and turned off zmaudit. Should I be running zmaudit via cron once a week as a consistency check?

I just wanted to follow up, I added a cron entry for zmaudit to run once a week. Also I took a a look at the default settings for a camera under 1.32, and copied these settings onto my existing cameras carried over from 1.30. My disk I/O is now better than it was under 1.30. I feel that enabling the Video Writer using X264 encode really made the most gains. Thanks again!

Little hint: If your cameras output h264, you might be better off using h264 passthrough. This will prevent the video quality from degrading due to a re-encoding, and will lighten CPU load.

Thanks for the clarification on that point, I have updated my cameras!
