Connecting Wyze V2 to Zoneminder

(If this isn't the right board for this issue, my apologies in advance.)

At the moment I have an Amcrest IP2M-841 and a Foscam R2 both working very well in ZM. So far, so good. :D

I also have a Wyze V2 camera flashed with the beta FW from Wyze that supports RTSP. The camera works correctly in the Wyze app. The connect string that the app generates is:

I'm trying to connect it to Zoneminder but I'm having no luck. I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of settings but I've tried about 40 kabillion variations with no luck. I search the forum but didn't find anything that got me going (if I missed a particular post that would point me in the right direction, please let me know) .

Has anyone gotten the Wyze V2 stock FW camera to connect, and if so, could you share your settings?

I'm running ZM 1.32.3 (flatpack version, Ubuntu via Ian Connor's PPA https://launchpad.net/~iconnor/+archive ... zoneminder)
OS: Linux Mint Tessa
I've pasted in the ZM Log file below.
I can send screenshots but I thought I'd ask first to see if this was a known and/or solved camera setup. Please let me know if you'd like screen shots of the (non-working) Wyze settings.

If there's anything else I can provide, please let me know and I'll be glad to find and post it here.

I don't know, I've been trying a variety of settings and strings to see if any of them would do anything. No luck so far.

The Wyze app generates this URL:

So that's probably the correct string, and it's what I've been using. (It's possible some of the lines in the log show entries from when I was trying other URLs. I've pasted in a more recent log entry using that as the URL.)

I'd use that string in ZM but I don't know what the other settings should be.

For example, in the General tab. What should I be using for Source Type? Ffmpeg, Remote, Libvlc...?

And in the Source tab, what should I use for the Source Path, Method, and Options (if any)?

Does the Wyze app specify a port for RTSP? The standard port is 554, so I would try that if it doesn't state otherwise. So the url would be:

I would suggest trying Ffmpeg and TCP first. If TCP won't work, try UDP.

Additionally, have you gotten the url working in VLC?

Hmmm, this gets odder and odder....

The Wyze beta app that supports RTSP doesn't specify a port in the software when you view the device RTSP info. I tried several ports to no effect. One note is that it says "Oprn the URL on your RTSP compatible video player while using the local network". I don't know if that "local network" bit means it won't work any other way. (??)

I did manage to get the camera recognized in tinyCam, but I had to specify my Wyze account user name (an email address) and password to get it to connect. It wants my Wyze web account password, not the username and password that was set in the camera itself.

I tried using that in the Source Path string but it doesn't work. Nothing I've tried so far will get it to show up in ZM, and VLC won't connect or show the camera either. VLC did tip me off to the fact that it wants the Wyze web account info as part of the connect string, but VLC still won't open or display the feed.

I took a second Wyze cam with stock FW and was able to get it working in the Wyze app, but when adding it to tinyCam, it shows the first Wyze camera. (I mention this only for completeness, since I'm more interested in getting the Wyze cams to work in ZM than anything else.)

tinyCam does show some interesting info, and I'm including that as a screenshot here in case it reveals something useful. It shows a port number and IP, but the IP must be from Wyze Labs, since it's not a 192.168.... IP.

At this point I'm befuddled and have no idea what to try next or what setting to try to use in ZM. Maybe the Wyze cam just isn't compatible with ZM? It should be, since the beta FW seems to support RTSP, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

Note- also added a shot of the ZM console, just to show that it's working well with an Amcrest and Foscam camera. :)

Also, reading the docs, I see ZM does have some ability to control pan/tilt/zoom, but I'm unsure of how to set that up for specific cameras. Are there some preconfigured scripts for specific cameras?

EDIT: Where is the "Control" tab in Zoneminder 1.32.3? Has this been moved or relocated? I don't see it anywhere. (??)

Enable OPT_CONTROL under Options>System. That will make the Control tab visible. There are several pre-made scripts. If you're trying to control a pretty popular camera, it's probably already made.

tinyCam isn't accessing the local rtsp stream. It is accessing the stream from Wyze's servers using some sort of cloud/p2p protocol that ZM probably can't work with. Can you post screenshots of your config for Wyze in ZM?

Ahh, that did it.

I see several Foscam cameras but I don't see the Foscam model R2.

I tried one of the pre-made Foscam selections but when viewing the feed I didn't see any change (like control buttons); I'm guessing there's more I need to do to enable it, or...?

I'd love to find scripts for the Amcrest 841 and the Foscam R2.

Yep, that's what I figured, given the IP and other params it displayed.

Here are the General and Source tabs, I believe all the other settings in ZM are at their defaults. The Source/Method is set to TCP but I also tried UDP with the same result.

The script for the R2C was added right after 1.32.3 was released so it isn't in there unfortunately. You can upgrade to 1.33 or find the script on GitHub and add it manually.

Looks like you have a typo in your capture height. Doubt that's the problem, but setting the wrong resolution has definitely caused issues in the past. I think you probably need to figure out the correct port. Have you tried re-flashing the beta firmware onto the Wyze cam?

I changed the capture height to 1920 X 1080, same result.

I'll contact Wyze and see if I can find out the port, and if the URL that their app generates is correct.

Hopefully Wyze will be kind enough as to provide you with the camera stream paths, but after that, you may have to use wireshark, and do some digging. Any good camera will include the stream paths in the User Manual, or they will be in the ispy website.

After a fair amount of fiddling around and a great deal of skilled assistance from a user named "InnocentBystander" in the Wyze forum, I was able to get RTSP working in ZM.

I now have 3 cameras running in ZM- an Amcrest 841, a Foscam R2, and a Wyze Cam. I'll be adding a second Wyze Cam after I flash it with the RSTP-capable FW from the Wyze beta program.

I guess the last couple of questions I have at this time involve whether or not need to set some sort of channel info in ZM to differentiate the 2 Wyze Cams. You should be able to add a new monitor to ZM with the other IP address.

zmNinja is a fantastic mobile viewer for ZM. It's well-worth the $5 bill. There is a 'Mobile Apps' section on this forum that is mainly support for zmNinja. asker (zmNinja's dev) is very responsive and goes out of his way to help users.

You can go to the zmNinja repo and try it for free on desktop to see if you like it.

Consider me sold. I'll buy it and see what I need to do to get it working. :)

I can also recommend tinyCam, which is a tremendously useful and functional app for $4.00. it's not on par with ZM, but it's very good. I'm seriously considering trying to make a mini security dvr out of a cheap Kodi box and tinyCam.

Anyway, thanks again. I have some questions about hooking up some ethernet cameras over wifi, but I'll start another thread about that. :)

Would it possible to post the final working config you used for the Wyze Cams? I’m banging my head against a wall with these things. Also the Foscam settings would be awesome also.
