Zoneminder UI not functioning properly after update to 1.34.15

I am not sure where to start with debugging this. After updating to zoneminder 1.34.15 through the Ubuntu PPA the UI no longer functions as it used to. When I click on a camera's IP to it's "settings Source" this does not pop up in a small new window. Instead the existing browser tab simply opens that page. Furthermore, on this camera settings page, the anchor links do not work... So, that means I cannot inspect the Source or change the Storage for a camera, etc. I just updated to 1.34.16 and the issues are persisting.

OS: ubuntu 20.04
Zoneminer versions: starting with 1.34.15. also experiencing issue with 1.34.16
Browsers: Chrome and Firefox

What version were you last running in which things worked properly (that is, what version did you originally upgrade from)?
