Missing Video Between Events

I am regularly experiencing gaps or missing video between events. What are some recommendations to remedy this?
As an example:
If my an event in real-time is 20 seconds then I may end up with two events, each for 9 seconds, or 18 seconds total, with a 2 second gap between the two events.
I want no gaps, zero.
How do i fix this?
