Modect no longer recording from IP camera

Hi,
Recently upgraded to zoneminder 1.34.22 on Ubuntu 20.04 - and have now just done a full apt update/upgrade to make certain I have the latest install.
I've tried to search this forum for the 'Shared data...." log message below, but found no solution.

My Driveway camera, a HIK DS-2CD2045FWD-I 4mm IP camera configured as ffmpeg for modect RefImageBlend 12.5% and AlarmRefImageBlend for 6.25%
The camera has worked for many months, but now although it does fully monitor and does record until I cancel a forced alarm, it will not record when motion is detected.
My Logitech webcam in my office does still work with MODECT.

On this Driveway camera I have deleted the old Zones, tried withwalking past it with no Zones and also with 2 new zones. And of course restarted zoneminder numerous times.
No events are recorded, but the log file shows:

2021-01-17 18:43:10 zma_m5 5856 ERR Shared data not initialised by capture daemon for monitor Driveway zm_monitor.cpp 501
2021-01-17 18:43:10 zmdc 5814 ERR 'zma -m 5' exited abnormally, exit status 255 zmdc.pl

Please can I get some guidance on sorting this out.

Do you have any custom configurations that might have broken the upgrade? Did you make sure the DB is up to date with zmupdate.pl? When troubleshooting issues, there's a few common things that break. If it's not obvious, you can just wipe the install (purge) and restore from a db backup.

That's what I might do in this situation, in case it's a corrupt install.

But, maybe someone else has a better idea, so if you want to wait you might get some other recommendations.

Thanks for the checklist.
I went through it, zmupdate.pl told me I was already latest so I looked at some MySQL stuff, and all seemed normal.
Also, the dirveway camera is/was working - it was just not recording events.

So I thought as hard as I should have, before my post.

Sure enough, the alarm was not being triggered so there were no 'events' to record.
I used presets and it seems that the defaults are non-sensical.
After reading the how to set up Zones wiki, I manually lowered the number of pixels required to trigger an event, and the system is now recording

I will now attempt to sort out the logged errors I get, under a separate thread.

Ah ok, I was under the impression that your setup was working w/Modect until you upgraded, but it sounds like that was not the case. So it's a PEBKAC error, but no worries. It's part of the learning curve. Zone configuration is tough. Some people use ZM ES. I mocord everything, and use software/hardware devices, as software detection is like all machine learning/AI, and it gets you 90-95% there, but no further. Always imperfect.

So was/am I. It is after I did the upgrade that I noticed it - and I don't fiddle with it so it is unlikely that it was a PEBKAC issue.

(Love the term PEBKAC [I use it quite a lot, even against myself ] - amazing how few people even know it! )
