Hi there,
I'm having a few setup issues with ZM. I've got a four port BT878 chipset card thats installed. I've got a cam hooked upto one of the inputs, but can't seem to get a picture.
A few errors that I have are
ZoneMinder Console - Stopped (start) - v0.9.15
I can't start the console in the webserver, or can I get it working at all.
I'm getting these errors in my /var/log/messages

Can you tell me how you have set up your devices? Are they /dev/video0-4 or one device with multiple channels? Also, which card are you using?

It appears to be installed as /dev/video0 but I also have /dev/video1-3 but they don't do anywhere.
I've tried setting up cams on /dev/video0 with ports 0 to 3, and tried setting up /dev/video0-3 as well.
Its not even saving a picture.
Is there any way to test from the command line? I don't have X installed. If I could test from the command line a way to save the picture, I should be right.
I also have tried using a Creative Webcam III but it doesn't appear to install as a /dev/video port.

Ok some more playing, after I removed the card and restart the system and reinstalled the card and restarted it installed it to /dev/video1 rather than /dev/video0.
I've now changed my monitor ports and appear to get something a little better. I have a screen capture (once, its not updating in the web side of things since 20 mins ago).
Any more hints?

The shmget errors are a little odd.
Can you answer the folowing questions,
1) Which version ZM are you running?
2) Are you running in authenticated mode?
3) Can you do an 'ipcs -m' (as root to be on the safe side) and post it here?

I removed the database and started again, including a 'make' again to make sure everything is fine.

Sometimes, starting the ZoneMinder daemons can get a little tricky when starting from the interface.
Try shutting down all ZoneMinder Daemons by doing "zmpkg.pl stop" on a command shell. Afterwards, do "zmpkg.pl start" to get all daemons running. This will make all daemons run as root and have the needed access to the shared memory segments.

The number 700 on the line above means that only the user owner can read/write/execute from that shared memory segment. No other users can access it. Perhaps it should be 770? Hopefully Phillip with take a look at this for the next version.

Can you have a look through the various ZM logs (in /tmp by default) and see if there's anything suspcious in there.

First, are you doing "zmpkg.pl" as root? If not, give it a try.
Now, here's a quick and dirty hack I used to get rid of the shared memory permissions problems...
1. On the ZM source tree go to directory "src"
2. There, edit the file zm_monitor.cpp line 87, I believe. Look for "IPC_CREAT|0700".
3. Edit the 0700 and change it to 0777. Now, I'm not so sure about the security implications of this, but lets do it just for testing purposes. Maybe 0770 is a better option?
4. Recompile and re-install.
I run RH9 and the only problem I've got after this fix is not being able to start the processes from the interface. But I believe that was addressed on another thread on this forum.
