how do you actually get this to work???

Hi, I'm using a Lenovo x220 with Linux Mint 20.2 I've downloaded ZM but just can't see how to run it theres nothing relating in the menu to ZM please help

You have to install it from the command line.
Try googling for
zoneminder the easy way
It's a script that does most of the drudgery for you.

I tried that and nothing, its installed on my linux mint but I have no idea how to run it there's no program in any list or search I assume it must be a terminal instruction set But I can't find info anywhere

You need to readthedocs on installation. The installation will result in a ZM web page, http://whatever_your_server_IP/zm/ and everything for ZM config and use should be through that website.

I didn't get any docs in the install just the download and that was it as I say no instructions anywhere and the info online tells me nothing all I'm looking for is a simple step by step list of commands and how to operate the program but its starting to sound much too difficult
