[Solved] v1.37.12 - never ending event whilst waiting for motion+camera startup

I noticed the following in my syslog.

Code: Select all

Feb 28 13:07:16 Lyalls-PC zmwatch[749]: ERR [Memory map file '/dev/shm/zm.mmap.2' does not exist in zmMemAttach. zmc might not be running.]

Feb 28 02:39:16 Lyalls-PC rtkit-daemon[4101]: Supervising 8 threads of 5 processes of 1 users.
Also, restarting Apache (on which zone minder depends) re-start time of the camera has now become quite long (in the order of 30 odd seconds).
Also, I note that my motion detection Logitech C922 Webcam, which worked fine, previously, now seems to be capturing full time, not during motion.
This shows as an 'event' cause 'continuous' with an ever increasing number of frames with zero alarm frames.
I changed the 'capturing' setting to 'On Demand' with recording 'On Motion' (it was always set to On Motion) and the issue seems to have gone away.
I suspect something went adrift with the database version migration?
Finally, pedantic as always, note the error message "Failed to opem database. Sleeping.

A short time later: I have a never ending event (no end time), no alarm frames. I suspect it was when I went outside to test motion detection, for which there are no events recorded

Code: Select all

Maybe I should shutdown zoneminder and discard shared memory?... nope.

I'm not getting anything like that, but about half my cameras are inop, with segmentation faults.
Needs work. :(

By the way, this is not a criticism, it's just letting you know there are issues.

My installation of ZoneMinder is purely a hobby and if it breaks, it's no big deal. I know to expect issues with bleeding edge. :)

That said, it seems to capture motion in the correct zone, creating events and I can review them.

The only problems are camera warm up time and what appears to be a never ending event in the event log (no end time).

The continuous frames event seems to keep going until a movement is detected, at which time, the event is closed off according to my settings, which is about 20 frames of no movement.

EDIT: as per event log, one can see when things changed...
Selection_004.png
Selection_004.png (29.52 KiB) Viewed 2721 times
and the continuous event with no end time, and seemingly endless disk usage...

This is promptly deleted by one of my filters, as it has less than 30 alarm frames.

I will admit to being somewhat concerned, if, overnight, no movement is detected. Will the event fill up my disk? At 7400 frames it has used 1.2GB, so far.

So this was a big code change, replacing Function with other questions.

Please note, Capturing = OnDemand means that you will only be recording if you are watching the stream. You likely want Always. This functionality is new.

zmtelemetry errors are fixed. Will work through others as the day progresses. Needs lots of documentation updates obviously.

System calmed down now and Network Encoder showing all cameras

Set to always capture and not record, but recording as I need to have Decoding enabled as I use this system just to view the cameras. No big issue here as I just purge the files from the disk to stop it falling over. Montage & montage review work along with thumbnails and logs running green with only the usual alerts

Got most of my cams working - monitor dimensions had been intentionally set to 640 x 360, which was ok until now.
It's pickier now, setting to actual 640 x 352 works, except for one oddball TrendNet I have.
Messes up my 3 across montage though.

If you visit https://launchpad.net/~iconnor/+archive ... tate=built you should be able to get a copy of the .deb for any build you like.
