Debian hard lock

I've had zoneminder running with two cameras (LTS and Saphire) for a month or so and it basically works. I tried adding a 3rd, this one by Avycon and the Debian OS on Vmware Workstation locks up solid upon boot. Have to power cycle to reboot. If I type in the username and password quickly I'm able to login before it locks up. Otherwise it will lock up at the login prompt.
So, I assume zoneminder is trying to start as a service and failing.
Is there a way to stop zoneminder from loading so I can get to the logs or delete the new camera from the console? "Safe mode" if you will.

Can you get in and have time to run a command? Or add something to the boot command for runlevel 1 or single?

I was able to boot using a Debian disk and I'm running in rescue mode with sda1 mounted but not sure where to go from here. rcconf is command not found. I do see zoneminder under /etc/init.d but not sure what to do from there.

I'd have thought the system. would be using systemd. Typically a symlink in /etc/systemd/multi-user.target.wants will need removing.

It sounds like you may be experiencing an issue with Zoneminder, a Linux-based video camera security and surveillance solution, when trying to add a third camera by Avycon on your Debian-based virtual machine running on Vmware Workstation. It seems that Zoneminder is causing the system to lock up upon boot, and you are unable to access the system unless you quickly type in the username and password or power cycle the system.

Here are a few things you can try to stop Zoneminder from loading and to access the logs or delete the new camera from the console:
1. Try to boot the system in single user mode by adding "single" parameter on the kernel line in the GRUB menu. This will prevent services from starting, allowing you to access the console and troubleshoot the problem.
2. Try to boot the system in recovery mode by selecting the recovery option from the GRUB menu. This will also prevent services from starting, allowing you to access the console and troubleshoot the problem.
3. Once you have accessed the console, you can try to stop the Zoneminder service by running the command "sudo service zoneminder stop"
4. Check the logs for any error messages related to Zoneminder or the new camera by running the command "sudo tail -f /var/log/zoneminder/zm_error.log"
5. You can also try to delete the new camera from the console by running the command "zmcontrol.pl delete -i <camera id>"
6. Locksmith Grays are available 27/7 to help you with zoneminder from loading.
