I'm still looking to buy a box that can handle 10 cameras at say 3MP with zones using modetect. Will this low power machine cut it?

All I see is 2 cores mostly.

I just want to buy something that is not a energy hog and not sluggish. I did search around on the forums but I just don't see much on the 10 camera system setups. Most of the threads are old. I wouldn't mind a 1U box either.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a 'Mini PC Fanless,Intel Core i7 10510U'
Bought it with 32GB ram and 1TB ssd, I might open it when I get it and put a couple m.2 drives in it.

The specs say the base freq is 1.8Ghz, its 4 cores, 8 threads.

For the love of all that is holy would a rockstar on here let me know how disappointed I will be? lol

Can I do 10 cameras if I play it smart with the settings? low stream (monitor)/ high stream record at 3MP

I have a POE switch and a ubiquity AP pico M2 and I plan to get a directional yogi antenna for a couple offsite wireless cameras. The rest will be just ethernet IP cams. (have not purchased yet)

Might take a bit of tweaking but that should do the job just fine.

UPDATE!
I ended up with a fanless system as described above, bought a off the shelf wifi/poe ptz dome camera without doing any research.

The box->
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10610U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 8 cores with 32GB ram
I installed Ubuntu latest headless server, then install zoneminder using apt
I measured the load using htop -->avg
1 Camera at 1920x1080p using the wifi connection.

The single Camera off (modect off) system idle---> ~.3% cpu avg
The single Camera with modect on ----> ~3.3%-4.1% cpu avg
The single camera 'triggered' (recording) ----> ~6%-8% cpu avg
The camera is running at 10fps and the storage is passthrough (no re-encoding/decoding going on I think), so recording 1080 @ 10fps.

Hopes this may be of use to somebody else.

The Camera is a imou cruiser SE, and it does not have a web gui. Knowing what I learned now, I would use a tool from their parent company to config the camera without putting the obnoxious app that wants all permissions on your phone. Use the program I mentioned below to assign it a static IP address. The parent company of this brand is Dahua Technology, and they have a tool also you can download to config the camera without scanning QR codes. ughhhhhhhh

The camera address looks like this--> rtsp://admin:saftey_password_on_sticker@192.168.XX.XXX:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0&unicast=true&proto=Onvif (you can leave off &unicast=true&proto=Onvif and it will still work)

The ptz does not work in zm, but it does work with this other ONVIF program called 'ONVIF Device Manager' it gives a error sometimes to this address --> http://192.168.XX.XXX/onvif/ptz_service
Maybe some genius on here can get it working?

subtype=0 is the full res and subtype=1 is 480x??? if you switch it up in the address.

Overall I like zoneminder, seems solid so far
