fedora 38 with ZM 1.36.33, 16GB, AMD
11 ip cams, where 2 of those are 3 lens camera ( https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005005710195681.html)
I have set the Low Res Cameras in Modect, while the High Res Cameras are in Record mode and linked to the related Low Res Camera.
I get the streams via rtsp
Source is ffmpeg.
All are in passthrough mode.

The 3 Lens Cameras are having a funny behavior.
Mostly every day one of the 3 cameras is not having its video recorded by zmc, for exactly one hour.
In attach the screenshot of the events showing the matter.

I'd like to attach as well the debug files, but are kind of big. Let me know, how to provide those here, if needed.

Anyway my question here is:
would it be possible to restart the ZMC daemon, within zm itself, when the mp4 files keep staying empty ? I did a test and restarting the zmc daemon kinda fix the issue.

You can run a cron job to restart ZoneMinder periodically but the bigger question would be WHY your having this problem in the first place. Are your error logs indicating that you can't connect to the stream or that writing files is giving a permission error or anything that could lead you to the root cause?

I think mainly the problem could be the way the camera handles the stream... some codec thing I suppose...

let me add that the empty files are related to the HiRes streams. the LowRes stream keeps kinda working because zmc instead of registering mp4 switch to saving jpegs...

I'll add the debug log of the LowRes Stream in a different message as there is a limit in the message size...

I added the conf in the Storage Tab, in the Optional Encoder Parameters

Anyway, looking to some others logs I found that the problem is happening everyday nearly at the same time now, and it happens when the Camera ip address is renewed.

and the above is present every hour.

Last but not least, such last renewal made ZMC to recover and the video started to be properly recorded again. I'll try to fix the dhcp issue first as that seems to be the starting point. No dhcp issue, no streaming problem...

sorry for the late reply. I've done your suggestion, but still no luck. Let me add some more info. The camera itself is made of 3 cameras and only 2 of them are experiencing the issue, which seems to be linked to the renew of the ip address done via dhcp. The one of the three that is not suffering the issue is the one that seems to be the "primary" camera; I call it like that because it is possible also to store the audio together with the video from that camera. I think that other 2 are kind suffering the ip address renewal, that adds some sort of delay which makes them not properly provide the video stream to the zmc daemon. I was not able to change the IP renewal setup as such camera has few options to be modified.

I think the only way is to restart the related zmc daemon as soon as an empty video file is written to the disk.

is there any way from ZM itself to accomplish that ?

If not I'll try with some "external" things that will not load to much the system.

Maybe you can fix the IP in your router. Check to see if there is a way to assign an IP address based on the camera MAC address(s).

there is a dedicated DHCP server and even if I tried to change the lease time, increasing the time the IP is renewed, those cameras keep renewing it every hour....
those are onvif cameras, but with a poor number of changeable config params, and the IP address is one of those... Neither to say that I cannot change anything related to DHCP renewal as well.
In the end I take such problem as another chance to learn new stuff....

Ignoring the camera end of things. On the machine/router that is the DHCP server, can you find an option to add FIXED ASSIGNMENTS to your network? Most half decent DHCP servers will have a way to allocate a fixed/manually chosen IP address to a specific piece of hardware (identified by MAC address), as well as the more normal "hand out an IP address from this pool to anything that asks" behaviour.

Increasing the lease time isn't quite the same thing. Check the DHCP server more closely.

What it means is that whether the camera asks every hour (persistent!!) or every lease-period, the DHCP server will ALWAYS answer that camera with the same IP address, so it won't suddenly disappear from ZM's view.

sorry being late here, but I have good news, the issue disappeared. I did not check if that can be related to a new release, but I do not have anymore empty files...
