No doubt this is a basic Mandrake issue, so my apologies.. I'm trying to install the wireless-tools package but when I do so it prompts for me to insert "Installation CD 1" - I've tried the LiveCD disc as well as Mandrake 10 community cds, but no luck. Is there a trick I'm missing?
Thanks - Joe
Installing package issue
Hi Joe,
I'm sorry to say this will not be as easy as I would like it to be. The installation CD it is looking for is the Mandrake download install CD. If you have an internet connection, package installation should be as simple as entering "urpmi wireless-tools". Unfortunately the liveCD was built on the Mandrake 10.0 "Community" release, which has now been updated to the "Official" release. So the configured FTP sources are no longer valid, and many packages have been updated.
If you are ambitious you could update the ftp sources like this:
From the Start menu launch "System -> Configuration -> Packaging -> Software Media Manager"
Uncheck the entry for "Installation CD1"
Edit the entry for "main" changing the URL to
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributi ... drake/RPMS
Edit the entry for "contrib" changing the URL to
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/Linux/distributi ... rake/RPMS2
Then you should be able to use urpmi from the command line or use the MandrakePakage Installer .
Or you could download the package from the URL above and install manually. This may require you to resolve dependancy issues yourself.
Hope this helps you,
Ross

Having replied while still rubbing sleep from my eyes, I missed in your post that you have the Manrake community CDs. You should be able the edit the entry for Installation CD1 so that it points to the proper path. Probably change /mnt/cdrom... to /mnt/cdrom0..
That should get you going without alot of downloading.
You should also be able to add the two other CDs using the Software Media Manager.
