Correction for wide-angle view distortion

Another back-burner idea: Is there some correction that could be applied to local camera images to correct for the distortion caused by wide-angle lenses and cameras viewing an area from an elsvated position?

Corrections could be applied, however I'm not sure they would be all that useful generally. Transformations like these would like involve floating point arithmetic and so probably be quite slow. Plus you'd end up with blank areas of the image as other parts are transformed in. Finally, there would also have to be an easy way of defining the change, something like all the screen modifications you can make in an OSD for a monitor I guess.
Is there any particular function you'd need this for?

Was more a might-be-nice-to-have idea than a firm need. I've got one camera with a 90-degree lens, and the field distortion at the corners is quite severe.

Have a look at

perhaps they have a filter you need and ZoneMinder can get the images from a loopback
