Hi ZoneMinder Community,
first of all, I wish a happy new year to all of you.
I have an „issue“ where someone of you might be able to help me with.
I have two ZoneMinder instances. One of them is running in my house on an up-to-date proxmox within a container and the other is running at my parents’ house, also on an up-to-date proxmox within a container.
Mine:
- ZM v1.36.35
- Container is Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
- Storage is a separate mounted drive with 3TB
Parents:
- ZM v1.36.33
- Container is Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS
- Storage is a separate mounted drive with 2TB
Both instances have 2 cameras recording continuously with 10 min events.
The issue I am facing is that on the replay of my instance within the web interface I am always missing the last approximately 20 seconds. The replay just stops even if the bar “time-bar” haven’t reached the end. With the instance at my parents’ house I don’t have this “issue”.
If I download the event as a video file it seems to not miss the last 20 seconds, it is only within the web interface. I have been facing this behavior for around 1-2 years (never had time to look closer). I always hoped with the next update of the container or ZoneMinder it just will get fixed but seems like the problem is somewhere else. I already compared all the settings and don’t find a difference. At least everything I could. I am neither an expert with ZM nor with Linux.
Any other information needed to help/guide me, just let me know.
Thanks a lot.

Is it plugged in? - JK
I suppose you've verified all the settings are identical, especially the config and images options? Storage Scheme?
And you're sure your recordings are always short? What if you make the recordings 5 minutes?

Re: Continuous recording missing end
This is a known issue when playing back mp4s using zms. You are probably saving h265 which your browser can't play so it uses zms to convert to mjpeg. I believe I have it fixed in 1.37 but it's non trivial to back port. I will look into it for 1.36.36 though.
Re: Continuous recording missing end
Sorry for late answer. I already was not expecting a answer anymore at all.
@dougmccrary:
All the cameras are Wifi cameras.
I verified all the settings i was able to find. Only difference i can find is in the settings, where you set up the camera in the topic "Source" the item "Method". One is TCP (my parents) the other one UDP (mine).
What you mean with Storage Scheme?
I am sure the videos are always short. I also was thinking maybe it will the at the beginning of the next one, but no, it is not. Also the “time-bar” never going to reach the end. It also stops before, so is obvious there should be something, but it will not show.
Shorter videos i did not try. but i tried longer ones. I tried 20 min and is the same. Also around 20 seconds missing at the end of the video.
@iconnor:
As far as i can say, i do not save the recordings as a video file. I was not even aware of it is possible. I just got it set up really basic and was happy at the point i made it run. If i look into the "Storage" setting of the camera settings i have set up "Save JPEGs" to "Frames + Analysis images" and the "Video Writer" is set to "Disabled". On my file system i also can only find the .jpg files. To be honest, i was thinking that is just how it works.
I can try to save the events as video files, but anyway i like the single picture method, because is super easy to get single pictures in reasonable quality if needed.
In the camera settings in the topic "Misc" the item "Default Method For Live View" (for zm v1.36.33) or "Default Method For Viewing Events" (for zm v1.36.35) [seems to have changed the name] i have selected "Auto".
I was thinking about to make a "optimization" of the SQL database (something like "mysqlcheck -u root -p --optimize zm"). But i have zero idea of wahts going to happen. If it will breake my database? if it will help?
Any further suggestions?
Regards
