incompatibilities and some errors with mediaplayer 9

Post by victor_diago »

people, when used with media player 9 , mpeg streaming is not well viewed. it takes a long time to appear in the screen, also in any bandwidth mode.

using media player default of windows (6.xxx) is ok.

ALSO, MPEG STREAMING dont show event correctly if the event is greater than 10 seconds (or 10 frames, i dont know exactly).

if the event is greater than 10 seconds zm just doesnt show anything. but stills mode is ok

Explaining a little more.

OBS : im capturing at 0.7 FPS on EVERY camera. have 4 monitors installed, all they as modect.

when using mediaplayer 6.X and 7.X, viewing live streaming is allright, but when using mediaplayer 9, you have to downgrade your bandwidth to low (because it has a 25000 bitrate configuration) and then, you can see streaming, but very SLOW. tried to change mediaplayer's buffers configs but nothing helped.

also, when using montage in mp 9, you can see only 2 cameras working, other is black. with mp 6-7 montage works right.

About the event viewing,

even using mp 6-7 (also 9) the events which have more than 10 seconds or 10 frames, ARENT viewed, just a black screen is showed. NO ERRORS in zmdc.pl. even in syslog or others zoneminder's logfiles.

playing events with less than 10 seconds is right.

i have tested change mpeg viewing to Cambozola viewing and tried to see the same events... with cambozola and java all they worked. changing back to mpeg and they stopped working.

i really think that this is something related on how zms uses ffmpeg.
about media player 9 ... i really dont know what could be happening, but just downgrade it (even uninstalling it) and using the ORIGINAL 6.x version which come with windows should be right

i will take a look at the source code philip
any progress i will post here.

thanks again

Hi Victor,

Thanks for this. The ZM support for ffmpeg is fairly transparent and I have to confess I don't know a huge amount about video formats and codecs so most things are just left as default or can be passed in to ffmpeg directly. I do have a vague recollection that topic of WMP9 comes up on the ffmpeg mailing list fairly regularly, mostly in terms of it's imcompatibility with various formats. I'll try and see if I can dig out some details. I _think_ there's a WMP10 out there though (maybe just in beta) which works better and if you can find it it might be worth a try.
