Using zoneminder zms as remote camera

Post by somepdguy »

Hi Everyone,

As suggested I am trying to use one "slave" ZM installation as the source for another "master" installation.

On the master ZM box I have setup a remote source:
IP: 192.168.160.200
port: 80
path: /cgi-bin/zms?mode=jpeg&monitor=5&scale=100&maxfps=2
and I have tried
path: /cgi-bin/nph-zms?mode=jpeg&monitor=5&scale=100&maxfps=2

When I click to view the cam I get cambozola just sit there on its opening credits screen and no action. If I visit http://192.168.160.200/cgi-bin/nph-zms? ... 0&maxfps=2 I get a stream of stuff that I presume is a jpeg stream?

Any ideas of where to go from here appriciated?

Thanks

if it helps... Cambozola

I have tried the latest Cambozola 0.34 and 0.22 both do the same - it just sits there

Working remote zoneminder ?

Post by somepdguy »

Sorry to go on.....

Would someone kindly provide and example of using a remote ZM installation as a source for a remote camera - the ones above don't work and this is doing my nut in!!

Has anyone tried? tried and failed?

What about authentication into Zoneminder - can I link to a camera stream that is on an authenticated Zoneminder? I have turned all authentication off, deleted all cameras and still no luck.

Sooo close!

Thanks

Hi,

Can you directly view the slave machine and slave streams? I assume this is the case. Have you checked /var/log/messages, if so are there any errors in there?

still not working

Post by somepdguy »

Sorry for the delay in answering i have been on hols. :)

I still can't use a master installation to view a slave stream.

both boxes are running 1.19.4 and work with local cameras. I have removed the local camera from the master box and just setup a remote stream to:

192.168.160.200/cgi-bin/zms?Zode=jpeg&monitor=3&scale=100&maxfps=15

If I use nph-zms it complains
Jul 23 13:21:14 moksha zmc-m8[28910]: ERR [Unable to extract HTTP status from header]

and with zms on its own it has no errors but it just sits there at 0fps not doing anything - I get this in the logs
Jul 23 13:27:03 moksha zms[31768]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = ]

This is driving me insane, and i now have a boss leaning on me - any help appriciated.

Well, just to comfort you: tried exactly the same thing and got the same results as you. Since the zm-docs are kind of "lean" in respect to networked cams using zms, I have no idea what to do.

Just some additional infos:

1) Using Cambozola and both master and slave configured to use greyscale I get just the copyright message and 0.00 fps
2) Using stills and both master and slave configured to use greyscale I get a black picture which is not the content of the slave frames.
3) On the slave machine the /var/log/messages fills up with this
"Aug 4 16:33:18 serverone zms[8740]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = ]"
About 2 of these messages per second.

4)On the master machine the /var/log/messages fills up with this
"Aug 4 16:37:03 VideoServer nph-zms[1285]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = ]
Aug 4 16:37:03 VideoServer zmc-m5[1021]: ERR [Invalid response status 500: Internal Server Error]
Aug 4 16:37:17 VideoServer last message repeated 29 times"

The weird thing is that I have the master source path configured to use "zms" and not as the log-file shows "nph-zms".

I´ll be fiddling around with some config options and let you know about the results.

Well, forget about item no 4) in the above post. Was a misconfigured source string. Monitor id was wrong. Sorry!!

Hi,

If your setup is available externally you can mail me the URL and I can try and debug it from here.

I'm trying to get this working here with no luck. I find that if I enter these values in the source fields of the monitor config window :

Remote Host Name 192.168.2.9
Remote Host Port 80
Remote Host Path /cgi-bin/nph-zms?mode=jpeg&monitor=5&scale=100&maxfps=2

I then get this as the source of the watch feed frame :

Code: Select all

<img src="/cgi-bin/zms?mode=jpeg&monitor=1&scale=100&maxfps=15" border="0" width="320" height="240">
So ZM seems to be ignoring the path field and defaulting to a relative path to its own /cgi-bin/zms

OK now that I've taken time to think about it. This is as I should expect. However I have still not been able to get it working. Questions about config that come to mind are :
Slave should have ZM_CAN_STREAM set to ?
Does it make a difference if slave uses zms or nph-zms?
Does the fps setting on master have to match the setting on slave?

All the details of a setup that works would be great.

Best regards,
Ross

I have tried various different options and still no luck.

I have an external setup ready for Phil to debug when he gets the time.
Just email me if you haven't got the details phil...

Thanks
