Hi all.

i was wondering if its possible to watch a zm´s event mpeg into a dvd player.

so i got svcd format and some specifications, i really think it could be possible to make a program/script that asks for events, then write them into a cheap CDR and make it SVCD compliant, so you can watch anywere.

i have only a little question:

i am recording at 1fps and svcd uses per default 29,97 and stores 30 minutes of video with audio in a good quality. If i use a lower fps rate (like 1fps) could i store more time there ?

i think its a very good idea, what about you ?

I am thinking about the very same thing here. The only difference is that we had a lot of data, around 90 gigabytes at the moment. I want to burn all of it on DVD-R disks that can be watched on a DVD player.

I have the same question: how to make the video as smooth as possible? I have understood that the events ZM produces do not have a fixed frame rate throughout the series of captured jpegs. Is this the case? If it is, what is the secret wisdom of making the video as smooth as possible?

Another thing of course is that the conversion should be scripted. Nobody can do the 10000+ events we have manually The question is - is the metadata stored in the database of any use? Can we maybe not use it at alla and just grab the images from the event folders and make a video?

hi man. im reading a lot about this.

there IS A WAY to make vcd and SVCD , as well as DVD.

BUT , as these are technical standards, the frame rate NEED to follow some standards for NTSC and PAL-...

in other words, you can only store upt to 2 hours in VCD, 40 minutes in VCD. I dont know about DVD´s storage capacity, but there are sites (www.google.com) that give a detailed overview .

These technologys have some tricks to deal with video that arent FPS compliant, for example, if you have a 1fps video (like me) you will need to encode it like 29,97 fps or another standard (NTSC-PAL) and then, the hardware can automaticaly insert other 28,97 frames (it only double the first one) So YES, ITS POSSIBLE, but you will lost a lot of space.

If you encode it at 1fps, that will be XVCD (Extended Video CD), but this standard is not well supported on all dvd players.

I think i will start a project to make the Video in VCD 2.0.

Vcd 2.0 have a good storage capacity (up to 2 hours) and i can make a Interactive Menu (playback control), that let you choose the video you want to watch.

OHHH, another important thing, if you have a lot of mpeg files, not a big one. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM, you can record them like tracks of audio cd, so if you put NEXT in your remote controller, you should see the next video.

I think this will be very good when done.
