NOTE:

i haven't yet killed all the useless proccess nor have i loaded zm. System currently running
apache .31 and mysql, ftp, sendmail, pop,

Question:

with 512 ram (DDR400) (upgradable if needed)
2+ghz intel ( can change to amd if need be)
160gb hd,

Is it possible to run 16+ cameras off this system or whats the limit for system.
im looking on running a Medium preformance video at 320x*,

if someone could give me a heads up would be apreciated,

i have recompiled the kernel to optimize the cpu architek.... so :|

My experience suggests your machine should be adequate. You probably want to keep an eye on shared memory, depending on what else your host is doing. The snapshot you provided indicates it's a pretty idle host!

Have a look at the readme doc to calculate shared memory usage, which is basically dependent on image size, depth and number of cameras.

My machine is a P3 500, 256mb memory with 6 cameras. Loadave generally sits about 0.8, little or no swapping. I'm happy with the performance of this machine.

The only thing I notice is when apache is running hard the load ave increases dramatically... I've made the decision to move all non-zoneminder stuff off this machine - I don't want to compromise Zoneminder's ability to capture events simply because someone else is hitting my web server!

i have a 6 cameras 2 bt848 cards machine 320*240 duron 1600 256 ram ddr 266 pcchips mother over a year and the only problem i have is the hd broke once :x .

consider the duron have in some tasks less performance.
