Processor type (amd) XP or Sempron

I'm looking at building a 4-8 camera system, using motion detection (10fps) w/ 30fps full record when motion is detected. Which processor would be recommend for this? Is CPU really that intense, or is it the hard drive / memory (i'm gonna use SATA + 512mb DDR memory)

looking around the 1.8-2ghz range

i built an 8 camera system and i used a 2.0 gig processor and it takes forever to remove events or pull up things.

i went with a dual p4 processor with a 16camera and it flies like the wind no issues.

i used redhat 9 but if i build another i'll use fedora core.
