Hello I have a Hauppauge WinTV card installed with composite and tv input.
Some strange things happening I had motion detect on while testing once and it captured some tv but i cannot get it back.
Also while testing the composite input i saw the picture on the camera for a second and now its gone.
I ran the zmu -d 0 -q -v command and it does recognise the board is there the inputs channels attributes etc... But when i view the monitor in zm console now i the picture is wither pure black or just blan
Ive tried to install xawtv but that another whole set of problems..
Would really appreciate any advice,
thanx,ed.

Your card should work well with Zoneminder. It should be just a matter of the right settings.
In the Monitor configuration window, and the Source tab, Device number should be 0. Device channel is 2, I think, for the composite input. If camera is NTSC (US format) set Device format to 1, and use 320 and 240 for width and height. Grey or RGB24 depending on whether your camera is color or BW.
You should also have a link on the desktop labeled TVTime video0. You can use TVTime to view your camera as well.
Let me know how it goes.

yes they are all the exact settings i used and they should be correct as that is also the read out i get from the command.
I tested the TVTime video0 on the desktop as you mentioned, there is something strange with this also it comes up no signal with a blue screen...
But!!
If i plug in the areal of the tv it
will recognise that allbeit badly coz im pal and its on ntsc, then after about a minuite it switches to my composite signal automeatically and there i am sitting on front of my ntsc camera in focus and in black and white as clear as day with a big suprised look on my face.
Yet i still cannot get it working in zm........hmmmm Any thoughts on what could be happening here??
EDIT-- now TVTime dosnt seem to be recognising the tv ariel as it flicks up black for a second and closes my guess is it realised its not ntsc or something its same even with reboot i guess it was a once off.
A bit more info the letters are green in zm console but when i go to monitor it says idle and there is what looks like what u get when there is a bad link to a pic on a website up on the top left hand corner.
I have tried using mpegs instead of jpegs ive tried refreshing with html and ive tried changingone of the paths to a different zms all to no avail. I set it all back again ofcourse.....life eh nothing ever works first time...lol

Try right clicking with the mouse in the frame and select "This Frame --> Reload Frame"

yes i failed to mention i tried that also as i came by it by mistake but it still stays at idle with that unliked look and when i go into still its just black,
theres nothin ive changed so it should all in theory be ok i dont think a fresh install would be of any use
maybe something on my particular system is an exception although it looks more software related

Just one more thing to try. Change the settings in ZM from channel 2 to channel 3, as I am not certain which your card uses for composite input
