Number maximum oif cameras ?

Post by RegisG »

Hello,

I'm searching a way to manage 8 network cameras on a linux computer. Before I install zoneminder, i would like to know if it is possible for it to do this.

regards,

maximum cameras

yes it is possible. I am running five cameras.
But from my experience, if you want decent performance don't be stinqy when it comes to hardware (No Celerons, Durons, Semprons) plenty of RAM
I am running an Athlon XP 2200+ with 1GB RAM and it is just not up to the job. I'm going to be switching to a Pentium4 3.0 GHz.

I've been a little stingier than Matthias, 6 cameras on 2 BT878 (multiplexed 4 port cards) with 6 cameras. P3 500, 256mb memory. Works fine for me.

My case:
Celeron 1.5 GHz
512 RAM
4 Bt878 CaptureCards (each card has only 1 chip)
total camera attached: 16
FPS: 3/4 each
resolution: 384x288 color 24bit
buffer size: 40 frames

works fine.
