1.19.5 on Debian Linux Testing

I get this error when running ./configure:

configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check See `config.log' for more details.

There are no more details in config.log that I can see.

gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 3.3.4 (Debian 1:3.3.4-13)

Any ideas?

didn't have g++ installed.
