Description of X10 proto? Want to use "DIY-X10".

Hello from Norway, my name is Einar.
First I would like to extend a thank you to Phil for a very nice piece of software. And Ross for making it easily accessible.
I have tried to find some doc on the X-10 protocol. The X-10 website reminds me of a market in Hong Kong. Trying to sell wherever you turn, but nowhere are there any info on the products.
Anyway I guess ZM may only use a subset of the protocol and that's what interests me. I would like to integrate it with a computer (Kontron) that looks like a PLC, but can be programmed in C. I know how to use that box, and believe the easiest way to integrate with ZM is to emulate X-10 on the RS232 console port. It does spit out some messages during boot on that port, but it may be ignored as it can run for years without booting.
For this purpose I'd like to know the (relevant part of) the protocol. I tried to look at the Perl code, but since this is my first encounter with Perl, it had nearly the same effect as some pints of ale. I really got no wiser, just thought I was and got very dizzy.
