Recording from a multiplexed video source.

I've have a Pelco Genex Multiplexer setup with 7 cameras and which are currently recording to a Pelco time lapse VCR. The system works, but obviously lacks some features I'd like (any sort of viewing of existing recordings requires manual interaction, etc.). The multiplexer switching can be controlled by either the unit itself by setting a fixed switch rate, or can be triggered by a remote source (ex. time lapse vcr).

I'd like to know if there is a way to take the multiplexed video output from the multiplexer can be demultiplexed into it's seperate streams and/or recorded to individual files. I could use 7 individual video in cards to perform this, but I want to add 9 more cameras to the system, but don't want to purchase additional hardware, aside from the cameras, when I have a functional multiplexer inplace.

What are the chances a feature like this would be integrated into Zone Minder? If it was decided to generate the trigger from within Zone Minder, a physical connection between the multiplexer and the PC would be required, most likely on the parallel port, and have some sort of external controller as the pulse generated is ~8v.

I'm sure I could put together a simple parallel port device and have some C++ code to control it in a few weeks.
