Remote storage
Couldn't it be possible to create a kind of remote-storage system? Through FTP or just Samba-shares? So that you can install the USBcam on a slim system 166Mhz,32RAM,1GB HD and you can save the 'alarm' on another system in Xvid/Divx/MPEG/SVCD format... (a system with 200 GB HD)
Client/server-system
Something like above. You can install a small program that broadcasts the video-stream(client), so you can save it and look at it from another location(client).
Would be great if all this could work and work on Linux and Windows both! Example: Linux-server(s), that are old, somewhere remote (with cams) like in the back-yard. Working together with Windows-desktop-systems in the same LAN, inside, with new PC's and also USB-cams..... Imagine the possibilities.

Re: Remote storage
Hi Sebastian,
You can have something like this probably without too much effort. Currently you can save both the events image files and the database contents on a remote system using Samba and a remote connection to mysql. With a bit more work concerning remote management you could in theory have one big server with several small ones doing the actual motion analysis hanging off it.
I'm not sure where a Windows system comes into it though, except for a monitoring station perhaps as I would expect the central server to still be most suitable as a Linux box.
Cheers,
Phil,

Re: Remote storage
Hi Sebastian, Phil.
Well, I have wrote this 6 month ago, but this question is interesting not for all.
I am writing the little program with java. Now I can see the alarm (motion detection) of cient, can see divx4 video alarm and have the databasse all of alarms in the my Linux server (FTP server). I can send the some commands to client (upgrade, active/disattive zm, etc.) to.Have the attive socket with all my clients :)
If we want to help me with my program we can write to virgin13@rambler.ru
Cheers,
Anatoliy.
P.S.:
to Phil:
Would you want to do the stream with mpeg format in the future? And something for alarm input (for other different security sistems)...
