Debian Sarge No Live Streamming Video or Stills

ZM 1.20.1 installed in Debian Sarge with all updates. CS330 webcam working properly with gqcam. Using latest cvs of ffmpeg installed in /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib. Have libavcodec.so and libavformat.so linked to /usr/lib. ZM console starts up properly in Mozilla 1.7.5, also tried Firefox 1.0.1, and the /dev/video0 link turns green when ZM is started. The live stream or stills show up as an empty frame with the correct framerate below which varies slowly with time. An event can be captured and thumbnails of stills show correctly. Have also tried repository of ffmpeg with no luck and both jpeg and mpeg. No live streaming or stills show up. Any ideas?

I sounds like something is off in you configuration. Check your path for ZM_PATH_ZMS it should point to an alias for your /cgi-bin and the file zms from the root of your webserver. Mine is /cgi-bin/zms

I second that. Images in events but not live are nearly always related to cgi configuration or related issues.

Finally got zm working in Debian Sarge, mostly. Started from scratch using http://www.salisburys.net/zoneminderlog.html as a guide for my Debian Sarge install but with Apache2. Tried ffmpeg 4.9pre-1 since that version works in my Mandrake 10.1 install. Things went pretty well until I tried to make zm, kept getting ffmpeg/avformat.h not found error. Eventually created an ffmpeg directory in zm build src and copied all the files over from ffmpeg 4.9pre-1 libavcodec and libavformat directories keeping latest files if duplicate. ZM now working with both Mozilla and Firefox. Only issues are that if I switch from stream, in either monitor or modetect mode, to still and then back to stream the video is lost. Noticed other posts concerning similar where browser cache was the issue so found tht clearing the cache fixes the above. Last issue is that I get a "video generation failed" message if I try to generate video from a captured event. Haven't resolved yet but not a big issue here since I normally don't use the function. Hopefully this will help somebody with a Debian install, especially the above link.
