ZM and XAMPP

Has anyone had any success building ZM with XAMPP ?
XAMPP installs and runs very easily and I thought it might be an easy way to get ZM running with it.
But ZM requires vaious files which don't appear to come with XAMPP - any suggestions as to how to perform a 'hybrid install' or would it be best to focus on installing the LAMP server entirely from the ground up using source files ?
