Standalone Version of ZoneMinder for any Linux application

Hello,
I am currently running Xandros open circulation edition on one of three of my home built computers. The other two are running WinXPHE and Win98. I previously tried to use ZoneMinder on my Linux box, with no success. I re-installed Red Hat 9.0 (my previous Linux operating system) in order to use ZM, again no success. I tried one more time and reloaded the Mandrake Move & ZM download that I had burned and the install apparently did work, although I could not get video since I did not have a video capture card but was using a network internet camera. The camera I was trying to use was a VEO wired network internet camera. I am a relative newbie with linux although I have been experimenting with Linux for about a year now. I have since returned my Linux box to Xandros OS. My questions are, will ZoneMinder be able to ever work with the Veo camera (network connected)? Will ZM be available for installation to the hard drive, without the Mandrake Move OS and without needing to be run solely from the CD and be compatible with Xandros?
P.S. I have a CCTV surveillance camera on my front window which has RCA jacks on the output side and would like to use that camera as well with ZM but I understand that I would need a Video Capture card for it. I will only purchase the card if I can get ZM working as I would not like to waste money on something that I could not or would not be able to use or setup.
Thank you for all your time and effort,
Sincerely Louie
