Monitor Description

I was just thinking that it'd be nice to have a monitor description that could be displayed instead of/in addition to the name. For example, I have my cameras labeled with a prefix indicating it's a video system, then the site ID, then the number of the system at that site, then the camera ID. This is great as it allows me to ID which location, system, and camera a particular frame came from just by looking at the time-stamp. It also keeps the time-stamp text to a minimum so as to not lose much of the picture. However, it's not the most descriptive in the world, especially to higher management. If a description field was added to the database for each monitor, I could enter a nice textual description of each monitor and have that displayed on the console. (And thereby eliminating the questions as to what camera VSS_BC-U1a is...

Adding a description to the monitor config is relatively easy. I'm not sure where it would be displayed though. I don't know if there's enough room on the console itself. Perhaps the easiest place would be to have it popup if you moused over the id.

Something a little more involved would be to be able to define what is shown in what order on the console screen. Even better would be able to do so on a per-user basis. (Display just the description and number of events for my boss, show everything for myself, etc.) Determining what to show could be simple checkboxes. You'd need either an index field for each to determine the order or something similar to a listbox to re-order the monitors; I have no idea if such a thing exists in hypertext though.

Another interesting suggestion. I'll add it to the feature list and as well.

I'm just creating all sorts of work for you with all these ideas I keep coming up with, aren't I?
