unable to mount loop file system

trying to load latest live cd. Getting error message "unable to mount loop file system" Dropping you to a limited schell.
Commands were:
losetup /dev/loop/0 initrd/cdrom/livecd.sqfs
mount -r -t squashfs /dev/loop/0 initrd/loopfs
Loading /initrd/bin/ash
This is a computer with xp currently loaded on it.
amd 2200 cpu
KT333 chipset
1.5gig mem
80gig hd
This is the first time i touched linux. Any ideas?

It may be that your CD is bad. You might check it by trying it on another machine, or checking that the MD5SUM matches the one found here:

If the CD is good then the problem is that the linux kernel is not finding the cdrom drive. I know that this sounds strange, since it just loaded from the CD. It is not too uncommon however, especially with older cdrom drives. Again if it works on another machine the solution is a different cdrom drive.

Aperently only a super genius can get md5sum to work. Here are all my trys. I can't think of any other way to try it.

Try C:\DOWNLOAD>md5sum ZMliveCD_1.21.0.iso
Your output should be this:
1d966ed747a3888d054899c737e1a77e ZMliveCD_1.21.0.iso

Thanks for the help. The verification number looks totally different than yours. Is there any problem burning this ISO with windows xp and Nero. I assume i should download the ISO again?

Yep - your iso is incomlete, download it again. The final size should be over 500M. WinXP and Nero should not be a problem.
