Video Crds (Input)

Post by jameswilson »

what cards seem to be the ones to use. I currently use a hauppage 64405 and can confirm that 2 inputs work but not at real time ( i assume this is because its a single chip) My query is that my card cost me about £60 but the 4 ways i have seen with 4 chips on are like £150 is this right??

I'm not sure I understand your question. The single chip can capture video up to 30 fps using just one camera. The more ports you enable on the chip reduces this by half plus a hit on switch and sink time. For two cameras you can expect ~12 fps, three ~ 7 fps and four at ~3 fps for each port used on that chip. The four chip cards usualy only have one input to each (unless you can add a daughter card like the spectra ituner card that addes four more inputs for a total of eight in which case two inputs per chip and using two inputs on the chp produces ~12 fps as detailed above) so each input has the chips full attention of 30 fps.
Hope this answers the question, if not let me know.

The best thing I have found is Ebay through sellers in China. Those cards go for around $22 USD shipped.

Inexpensive capture cards

Post by BKahler »

Cordell,

Would you mind being a little more specific as to which cheap cards from China? I've been watching various cards and asking the sellers about whether the cards are supported under Video4Linux but none of them seem to know.

I'm gathering up the hardware and software to try and set up a system to monitor our property out in the country. I would just as soon start out with an inexpensive card and if it doesn't meet our needs then upgrade to a more expensive one.

Thanks,

Brad

Any ideas guru's. What i want to do i think is apply the new bttv drivers. They seems to have a 'cvs' version (is this like a pre release version). How do i get this into my zm box so my card will work. From what i can gather my card is cs16.

i have given up for the time being on the above card and am trying the saa7130 based card again. I have installed a fresh copy of fc3 and got the card working with tvtime. Works perfect no interlace issues etc (that i can see). I have tried installing zm on this box and have come accross a few dependancy issues and am struggling (dont know much about linux generally). The card only started working when i did a kernal update. Is there anyway to get this to happen on the live cd?? Live cd is my saviour as its the only thing i have successfully run zm (probably cos its all done for me..cheers Ross) Anyway any pointers????

What kernel on fc3 is working with the card?

Is there any chance you can boot this machine from the livecd and put it on the Internet, and PM me with an address? I'd like to take a crack at getting it working with the livecd. I'd need access to ports 80, and 22.

I'm not able to connect yet, or even ping the address. You have a broadband router with ports 80 and 22 redirected to the machine?

If fc3 has zm up and running I'll take a look at that, but I was thinking the livecd (or a hard disk installation from the livecd). Anyway 22 and 80 are httpd and sshd.
