drag to define zone

Hi
I think a very nice addition would be to allow users to drag a new area on the screen to define a new zone, instead of having to type in the coordinates by hand.

I think this request has already been made several times and something is already in development for a future release.

I just tried out 1.21.3. and this drag feature is still not there. is it forthcoming any time soon? I think it would be a real neat feature.

dont know but for my 2 pence i think there is more important features to spend all our time on. as drag to define zones is a rarely used thing
ie youl set it up then hopefully leave it alone, your not gonna be defining zones every day.
Problem for phil and others is what to prioritise as 'killer features'
I think loads of things are mega important but someone else just thinks it would be nice.
Would be nice though lol

I do beg to differ.
setting alarm trigger is one of the most hazzardous and time consuming tasks in a real world situation. the results is highly dependent on the admin's perception of the environment, lighting, intended vs. surprise subjects, etc. I can't imagine getting the setting right in one try. the worry is more like can you get it in 10-20 tries. will you be so darn tired of it and still not have it right. trigger too often, not enough, getting all the false alams and miss the only real burglary, etc.
I can see this feature get used heavily and time saved much appreciated.

fair comment.
I must admit mine here are just set as defaults but i use mocord and dont require email etc. And one of the reasons is that i dont know how to set it up (its just to powerfull lol)
It seems like motion detection is like its own app with what it can do.
I think that phil has got something working where you upload a mask image or something like that but im not sure. We will have to hang on for the man himself, but i am unsure as to how it would work over a web interface.

Seeing how there has been no new release since this thread started, it is not yet availible. Phil is working hard to try to get things done I assure you, he always has but alas, he is only one man and doing this as for the most part a free service using his free time. The work has already been started for this feature so we should see it in the next major release. If anyone has the skill to be able to assist with the coding for this feature, please feel free to contribute and help out, and you can contact myself or Phil and we would be glad to have your assistance.

Drag and drop is on the list of interface improvements. I've started on some of these already (see timeline thread). However I would also say that drag and drop wil only allow you do define the x and y extents of a zone. These aren't all that hard to do currently, you just need to estimate a percentage of the screen. All the rest of the configuration will still be manual. I expect this enahncement to be available probably in the same release as the zonemap feature allowing you to edit a bit mask offline and upload it.
