what other software do any of you run on your zm boxes. im just curious of making my box do more (throwing huge amoints of video around isnt enough for me anymore!!!!)

The only other software I run is stuff to help me either secure or maintain the box. exim for mail, phpmyadmin for db admin, webalizer for web access stats, an eggdrop for on demand system stats and for an easy way to see if the machine is up and running, oident for ident, munin for system stats, chkrootkit, apf firewall, etc. Its pretty much maxed out with the cctv stuff though, not much room for any other cpu intensive tasks.

main rea on i ask is a bit ago someone mentioned that they were gonna add zm to their security box, was wondering what else was out there!

Similar to what was previously mentioned, I'm using my server for quite a bit... zoneminder, one vmware instance, Drupal based website, Gallery photo album, nfs file server, samba file server, dns server, nightly local backups, online backups (yes, I'm anal), and probably other stuff I'm not thinking of.

It all works quite well on a Tyan GX28 1u server... two dual core Opteron 290's with 4GB RAM. Zonemidner reports my server load to be in the 2.xx range (for 4 cpu cores, that about a 50% load). BTW: You'd be surprised how affordable old, refurbished servers are if you have never looked into it.

Note that I'm not saying the above is a good idea for anyone. Normally I'd say running all that stuff on one machine is a downright bad idea. Because my server is next to the master bedroom, I am "encouraged" by the boss to run as few machines 24/7 as possible.
