thanks, worked first time and all i had to do was click on the icon, I like!!!

ok, so. Rpmdrake fails to run.. Turns out to be another "symbolic link" problem, I had to kill the rpm link in /var/lib ... after that it would load..

however, it will not install this rpm..

ok, package database = fubar, had to use rpm -i --nodeps xxxxx.rpm to ignore dependencie errors..

Anybody have a stock rpm package db for a fresh zm install, i hate to have to re-install it... (as there is not cd-drive)

I do not understand how to use this link. If you click on it you get a dir listing. Now what. I am trying to update the live cd from 1.21.0 to 1.21.2

If you click on the link in the directory you will be able to download and then install the rpm.

In theory yes, but in actual practice when you click on the link you get a dir listing. You can click on individual things and download them, although i have no idea were to put them or what ones to download, there are quite a few with different file extensions.

And once you get it downloaded then what. I tried reading the mandrake docs. It looks like the Install icon in "software managment" under "configure your computer" is the command to use but it does not find any of the rpm's i downloaded.

Sorry I'm a console person more than a GUI type so bare with me.
You have a couple options and I'll start with the GUI and I'm guessing a little.
method 1) You should have a folder called home on you desk top click on that
inside this folder you should see your file zm-1.21.2-1_mdk101.i586.rpm and you should be able to either double click on it or right click to start the installer.

Method 2) The method I use is you should be able to find a console icon in your toolbar so open that.
This is like cmd windoze in well you know, the equivilant of [dir] is [ ls ]
you should see you package in there. now type the following
rpm -Uvh zm-1.21.2-1_mdk101.i586.rpm

rpm is the package manager, the U is for upgrade, the v produces verbose output, and the h gives you the progress bar.

Thanks for the instructions. Was able to update to 1.21.2.

Even with your instructions it took over a hour to finaly get it. This is one strange operating system. I hope my worst enemy tries to use it (haha).

Glad you go it. I my self used to be borg till I started playing with linux a year and a half ago. You can do alot more with it and yes it is differant than what I was previously used to. Now the only machine left to the borg is my laptop which I need for work. The other 6 machines are all linux. and I'm learning to program in several languages (never thought I'd have an interest). And my best project is about to be released in the next few weeks.

I was looking at some linux utilities on the net and noticed the download for them looks like the same style you used in the first message of this thread. A parent dir and some files under it. Could you please give me a line or 2 of instruction on how to update using that methode.

P.S. good luck on your programing. I have wanted to learn for years but can't stick to it. If it is not a top secret project i am sure we would all like to know what it is.
