upgrade problem: prefs reset

Post by dbosso »

Howdy,

Every time I upgrade ZM, all my preferences get reset to defaults. I'd like some advice on what to do to prevent this from happening in the future.

I've been entering _just_ the required info into zmconfig.pl, but it appears to reset everything else in the database also.

I don't have a zmconfig.txt with everything how I want it, isn't there some way to just retain the existing settings?

Suggestions?

Whenever you run zmconfig.pl you will get a zmconfig.txt created. If you copy that to your new build directory before running zmconfig.pl for the new build you should find your old settings are retained from the db.

OK, but I find it much easier to configure via the web. So, once I've got a configuration done in the web is there any way to get it into a zmconfig.txt for my next upgrade?

Or is my only option to go through zmconfig.pl and do all the configuration there. That would mean any subsequent changes I make via the web would be lost if I use that same zmconfig.txt file for my next upgrade.

If you copy the config.txt over to the new version it gives that version access to the database earlier and the new version will be able to read from the database and keep/use your current settings.
