Filter Frustration

I have created a very simple filter to try and test the emailing capability of ZM. The filter has 1 expression which is cause - equal to - motion. Then sort by date/time desc limit to 1. When I hit submit, I come up with the last "motion" event which is what I want. When I save the filter I selected email and message me. The settings seem fine in the options but it never seems to run. I looked in the zmfilter.log and there is nothing, only the purge events. I looked in the database and emailed = 0 for every event. I must be missing something simple here, no? I have restarted ZM countless times.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i assume zm can email everything else and it is a filter issue not an email issue?

Have you looked in the logs for any errors?

Haven't gotten any emails to be sent at all, what else would generate them ?? I checked zmfilter and it doesn't even look like my filter is running. What other logs should I check / what should I be looking for??

it sounds like you have an email config error i just got home and i have never used zm for email but i will have a look and set it up and let you know. What details have you entered as you probaly need authentication for smtp?

I think the errors should get loged to messages. My installation emails out fine so maybe a little later tonight I'll try to make it error and see where the errors are logged.

Just to be sure, I assume you have filled in the relevant fields in Options->Email?

You can also try setting the VERBOSE flag in zmfilter.pl which will give you a little more in the way of debug.

I actually had to re-install ZM last night because I got a new machine. The filter is now working, however, it never seems to send the email. I will check out the verbose logging. Is there a log for the smtp "sender" ?

I just read through the forums and found that I "should" add mailhost to hosts, did that and everything seems to work fine.

Thank you all for the outstanding support, these forums are by far the friendliest of any open source software I have ever seen. My hat is off to everyone.
