Maximum listable events

Post by thelight »

Is there a limit to the number of events which can be listed when clickong on the 'view all' link in an events window. If I have a few pages it will list all the events no problem, however when I try to list all events on a camera which currently has 11036 events it starts to load, then just quits and lists the first page of events and no others.

Thats asking an aweful lot don't you think?
I tried and after a few minutes my system had processed >6000 events with thumbnails and was still going using a browser on a different machine than ZM. Thats is still alot to ask though. Are you using the browser on the zm box or on another machine? Did you have thumbnails on or off?
What gave up the server or the browser?

maybe it would be an idea to change the list choice to allow up to say 100 per page, else someone will try to load 30000 events over a dialup connection and obviusly have issues

I am browsing using a different machine on my local network so speed isnt a real problem. I dont use thumbnails, just a list of events. I dont really think any number is asking alot, assuming zoneminder is built to record that number of events, id expect it to be able to list them. Surely there is some way to display large amounts of data on a webpage even if it does take some time to list? If not, maybe there should be some way to get zoneminder to stop recording once it reaches a certain number of events so that it still functions in its entirity.

It still should not break anything to list all the events unless your running low on memory on one of the machines. Stopping ZM from recording would be the wrong way to go becuase then if something was to happen after you would have no recording of it and I don't think anyone would like that. There must be something else choking since the event list is only a product of MySQL and PHP/Apache, ZM has nothing to do with creating the web page it self (besides the streaming video). I have only ever used view all in filtered searchs anyway and know better than selecting it when I have alot of pages from a filter.

The machine im visiting the website from definitely isnt running low on memory. The CCTV machine is relatively stressed out but not to the point of instability and can cope with me doing quite heavy copying etc from the commandline. Its kind of like it doesnt actually try to list all the events. I click view all events, it says waiting for website to load, then says done but the list of events hasnt actually changed. Its not like it lists 200, 2000, etc then stops half way through.
