Many of the upcoming network surveillance products will support the JPEG2000 format. Images produced in this format are of higher quality yet smaller in size than regular JPEG images.

The latest version of Netpbm does seem to support this format. I'll investigate further. Still, it would be wise to prepare ZM's internals to accept Netpbm-compatible files for camera feeds, not just libjpeg-compatible.

What do you think?

A good point. Basicaly ZM can work with any format that has a library that will encode/decode into memory. Originally ZM did have support for GIF files but this proved to be a bit pointless (and tricky to fidn the libraries) so was dropped. However if you know where a JPEG2000 library can be found I will take a look.

Phil i rmber i bit ago you said that jpeg2000 wasnt a problem but there was no way to view them. I have found this, only an ie solution i know

Jpeg2000 is not a problem provided

(1) there is a drop in libjpeg2000 library to replace the existing one.

and

(2) browsers can support it

You have obviously found a way around (2) if only for IE so only (1) remains, though I doubt you can probably stream multi-part jpeg2000 files but it might be possible.
