serial printer triggers

One of our panels we use (intruder) has a 232 module that can connect to a serial printer and print each event as it happens. I have been looking at connecting this (via a null modem lead i assume) to the linux box and capturing the output. 2 thingsw would be great

1 to allow the incoming stream to be acted upon by zm on different cameras (ie door opening would cause cam 1 to go into record mode.

2 to input relevant info into the notes part of the event in mysql.

This would allow then fpr filters of all event relating to DOOR OPENING or zone 1011 etc would also allow any number of triggers for any task
