Is it possible to make a live usb key? Like the live cd but usb key based. I assume it would have to be a stripped down version but could it have a select hardware, and low config settings on it?

I think that's possible. Please have a look to feather Linux. There are a liveCD and a usb boot image that can be remastered adding ZM.
Note that is a debian based distro so it's easy to do it, but i think that usb version need to have more work because the adminitrations tools are missing.

I thin that the liveCD is a good compromise, but if you need avoid phisical space, the usbkey is the best solution.

Next month i think i have time to spend to create a liveCD, debian based, with ZM. Obtain a usbkey from a livecd, is easy. I will share it when ready, if no person will preceed me.

it was just a thought to aid config. You could setup how you wanted change whatever settings needed and then save a copy of usb key. I assume they would have to be a fair size (1Gb). I assume the same can be done with live cd but if a config change is needed a new live cd need to be created? It was just an idea if it was easy to do. If i can help let me know. The usb key i have spare is on 256 meg though

hi,

The size of a usb-installation is around of 80MB or less because i will delete X11 anth all graphic applications, .

the problem is the spacestorage needed from ZM.
I don't know ho many space-storace ZM need to work correctly.

If 150MB are enougth, you are in the game. :)

best,

i was hoping to have a hard drive in the mmachine dedicated to images. ie on machine boot if drive not formated/partioned it could do this. Then if a drive fails the machine will function, take out faulty drive put new one in and reboot
