Ability to "draw" alarm zones

Post by Blazer »

It would really be handy to be able to "draw" alarm zones to define them. I have only just begun trying to define a new zone, and the coordinate system is a bit confusing so far.

It just occured to me that defining alarm zones is very simlar to defining imagemaps, perhaps a java imagemap program, similar to MapEdit (http://geowww.uibk.ac.at/java/MapEdit/) could be modified for use with ZM.

Imagine how easy it would be to draw your zones on top of a static image.

sounds like a lot of work on the webserver end. Would a little program that creates mask setting or if you clicked on a part of the image it would give you the co-ordinates. I use zm slightly differently to most at appears as use mocord so i leave to whole scene on alarm, as false alarms dont matter.

Phil has been looking at this for a while. I think the problem is in providing something in the web view that allows the drawing to be done and which will work on any graphical browser. A search here on "mask" might turn up other discussions on the same matter...

Indeed. For things like a hallway and the like, a whole screen zone works well. But for instance, if I have a camera pointing at my front yard, I would like to have a zone just for my driveway and/or frontdoor, one for the mailbox, etc...not to mention some filter zones to mask out things like swaying trees and whatnot.

Perhaps just something simple like you suggested, where you click on the image and it just gives you the coordinates of where you clicked.
