zoneminder works, but outdoor images are washed out

I finally got zoneminder working, but I am not experienced with webcams, and I can't get it to show an image of the outside. Inside images work fine, but it is to bright outside, all I see is white. I have tried adjusting the brightness and contrast settings, but even at 0 brightnes, it is still completely washed out. Is there another setting, or is this likely just a bad camera? The camera is an IBM webcam. Thank you.

I'm having similar problems with a Labtec webcam, my one likes QCIF format/palette.
It works fine under Linux but zoneminder doesn't appear to support webcams that well. I asked a similar question and haven't had a single reply.
I guess a proper camera and grabber card may be necessary

It's not likely that it's ZM not supporting your webcam, more likely Linux or VIdeo4Linux. I've come across a number of cameras that just don't work with outdoor light levels. The worst is a DCS network camera but webcams can be pretty bad as well.

The litmus test is if you can get a good picture in xawtv but not ZM then it's a ZM issue, otherwise it's a V4L or driver issue.
