zm 1.21 debian apache2 cgi path problem

I think i'm down to 1 remaing problem
apache wants to force /usr/lib/cgi-bin and zms is at /var/www/cgi-bin
this is a stock debian with a 2.4.26 kernel i tried a ScriptAlias in
apache2.conf no go
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/var/www/cgi-bin/"
it won't allow a sym link in /usr/lib/cgi-bin
how do i fix it?

add to your alias options followsymlinks.
