picture quality of surveillance cameras.

Post by syscon »

I was googling around looking at live pictures of Axes 206 to 213 PTZ cameras on the net. I'm not impresses with the general picture details.
If the picture was saved as is I doubt I or anybody else could recognize any face, unless the assailant is posing to a camera.

Yeah, you're up against the resolution of the cameras, and the compromises made by the image compression routines. That's where capturing a good movie helps, as recogniiton isn't always entirely based on facial features (and plenty of thugs will do their best to disguise those anyway). It's also why quite a bit of image enhancement research goes on in law enforcement support labs.

The new megapixel web cameras do give rather sharper images, but of course the larger images take a little more collecting, analysis and storage resources.
