How good is ZM's motion detection?

Hello all,

I wanted to test the effectiveness of ZM motion detection and overall reliability. To do this I put a cheap camera out the window of my 20th floor office overlooking an intersection a half kilometer away. The challange - motion detect only on busses and trucks going throught the intersection. To add to this it was rush hour on a late typically dismal rainy gray Vancouver day and the window is wet and dirty. I set up the motion detect zone and did some calculations based on the number of pixels and distance as well as camera resolution. After plugging in the numbers I went out for an hour letting this run. When I returned to my surprise I found 17 events with trucks and busses! I did not edit this in any way other than change the name of the events.

Yes its that good! I show this test to others in the cctv business and they dont believe what they see.

Anyway - you can see this for yourself on my website at ..

www.cnssystems.ca

The settings and description is in an article to the right. At the left you can log onto my live demo and see the events for yourself and a live view of Vancouver in the great wet coast of Canada...

Great work Phil and contributers!
Cheers!

Hi Scott,

I saw that yesterday on your site, it's a very impressive demonstration and I'm sure I'll be able to quote that in answer to some of the queries that come up on here about it.

Hi just looked at your site and the first page and wondered how you got those high res pics? Are you capturing ip cams or using coax cams and a capture card?

Cheers
