i have no streaming when adding monitors.

but when i use camstream, it does work.
how do i see which /dev/video number is used for a cam ?

You may use scanpci.
What device do you have it setup as in camstream?
Also it might be helpfull to know a bit more about you setup (please see sticky)

What are the errors being thrown by ZoneMinder?

there are no errors. when i add a monitor it's all right. But when i try to watch them... it can't see any image. It's like, the link to .jpg or what so ever is missing.

What can we do doc ?

There are no errors in your zmdc.log or messages log files?

Can you view the source of the page and post what the image link is? Are you using authentication?

there is no zmdc.log but a zmdc.pl which is under /usr/local/bin/zmdc.pl

you should have a zmdc.log somewhere either in /tmp or /var/log.
The messages log is in /var/log.
If there is no zmdc.log then zm is not running.

It's worth checking /var/log/messages to see if there are any obvious errors, your httpd error file to see if the cgi mechanism is working correctly and also try using nph-zms instead of just zms.

Do i just have to change the path to /cgi-bin/nph-zms
to use nph-zms instead of the usual zms cgi script ?

I think I had the same problem using ZM 1.21.4 on debian sarge. Maybe this will help.

Everything seemed to work: xawtv gives pictures, no errors in ZM but missing (not black or blue) picture when I try to view any kind of stream.

I later found that events were being generated when I put the cam in modetect mode. I could view the stills of events but no streams. I looked in apache's error log and found
I turned off authentication and then I could stream.

I haven't had a chance to play with 1.22.0 to see if the problem is fixed there, but I just used .htaccess to password protect ZM instead of the reg. ZM authentication.

I found myself in a similar situation using 1.22.2 (on Centos 4.4 with Axis 207w cameras). After tweaking some things, I restarted ZM from the console in my browser and I was unable to see any streaming video. Here's a line from /var/log/messages:
In my case, it was because restarting ZM wiped out my login info, but ZM did not ask me to resubmit it. It would not show me any pictures, because it did not know who I was. The solution was to shut down and restart my browser. Then, when I went back to the ZM console, I had to resubmit my login info and everything was okay.

You may have been suffering from a different problem, but I would urge you to stick with the ZM based authentication, rather than turn it off and use .htaccess. That way you can still have roles for various users.
