Bootable Debian ZoneMinder Installation CD
I did some tinkering with ZM 1.21.4 on different distros and decided to use Debian Sarge for various reasons. I wanted an easy way to install it on a system again so I tinkered more with Mondo Rescue, http://mondorescue.org, and made a bootable 'bare-metal' cd image. I am no Linux/Debian/Zoneminder guru, I'm just more stubborn than most to get things working...and I like to tinker.
If there is interest, I can create a bittorrent of the ~400MB cd image on a server with halfway decent bandwith. However, you can probably make such a cd yourself. See NOTES below.
Here is what the cd does:
Boot the cd and type 'interactive' and enjoy Mondo Rescue's ncurses interface to interactively partition, format, and install a Debian Sarge system wtih ZoneMinder installed.
Type 'nuke' to _automagically_ partition, format, and install a Debian Sarge system with ZoneMinder installed. Be Careful!
NOTES:
- The system was installed in QEMU PC emulator version 0.7.2. http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu. QEMU emulates a Pentium II PC. This _should_ work on any Pentium II PC or higher with 256 MB of ram or higher. If you have more than 256 MB of ram you may want to adjust the swap partition.
- I gave up on getting ffmpeg to work. Only jpeg streaming is enabled. ffmpeg from the Debian repository is installed. Jpeg streaming works for me. The ZM source is in /usr/local/src if you get ffmpeg working and want to recompile ZM. Look for config.opts in ZM source to find my ./configure options.
- I suggest using fdisk from command shell if interactive or nuke partitioning doesn't work for you. Then boot the cd again in interactive mode and select No when asked to partition. You can do the same for formatting; format yourself from the shell, then boot the cd again and select No when asked if you want to format.
- Read more about Mondo Rescue and QEMU at the links above. You can use QEMU to install any system you want then use Mondo Rescue to make a bootable cd/dvd image of that system. I installed the system in QEMU so the system would be generic enough to use the cd on many different system with different specs.
- All passwords for root/admin are set to password (Login, MySQL, ZoneMinder). You may want to change those.[/url]
