A new installer CD is availible by bittorrent. You can get the torrent file here:
http://linuxtracker.org/torrents-details.php?id=959

Note: This is not a livecd
Zmdv_2006 is a Mandriva 2006.0 installation CD that has been remastered to include all packages required to run the ZoneMinder video camera security and surveillance software. Also included is i18n packages for all languages supported by ZM. A basic KDE environment can be installed as well. Other apps useful for remote administration include webmin, phpMyadmin, and freenx.

During the package selection stage of the installation proccess, check the box for "Individual Package Selection". In the next screen find the icon in the lower left that toggles to a flat list view of packages. When you check the zm box, all dependancies will also be selected.

If you miss selecting zm during the installation you can easily add it afterward with the command "urpmi zm". Or if you prefer use the GUI package manager.

Of course any additional Mandriva packages can be added by configuring additional sources. To make adding FTP sources easy I recommend Easy Urpmi
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/

To get ZM running once the installation is done requires a couple of steps.
First edit /etc/zm.conf and add a user name and password, something like
this:
ZM_DB_SERVER=localhost
ZM_DB_NAME=zm
ZM_DB_USER=zm_user
ZM_DB_PASS=zm_pass

ZM will use these to access the MySQL database created in the next step.
Next, run "/usr/lib/zm/init/zminit"
When prompted for the MySQL admin user name enter "root" and when prompted for
a password, leave it blank and hit enter. You will see some messages as the
database is created.
Now you can run "service zm start" and then point the browser at:
http://localhost/zm/

Donations are always welcome. However I realize that many users are (like me) enthusiasts with little cash to spare. One way all who download this CD can contribute is to leave the torrent to seed for awhile after download is complete. This way bandwidth is better for other downloaders.

Enjoy :)

As you have remastered this cd, is it possible to remaster it some more and change things, ie i have made my own live cd (only cos of the hardware issue, nothing wrong with live cd)
And would like to try my hand at remastering the 2006 version to my requirements. I looked at changing COrey's CTU ZM but Corey said it was a lot of work as there were no tools available for this and all had to be edited manually. Is this the case on 2006 or not?

And thankyou very much for this from myself.

Rdmelin, can you give more details about that lines?:

ZM will use these to access the MySQL database created in the next step.
Next, run "/usr/lib/zm/init/zminit"
When prompted for the MySQL admin user name enter "root" and when prompted for
a password, leave it blank and hit enter. You will see some messages as the
database is created.

Not get start zoneminder.

thanks

zminit located in /usr/lib/zm/init/ for this distro loads a new database for zm to use.
When you run zminit, it will ask for the administrative user for the database which is root.
Be defualt root has no password and is left blank so when zminit asks, it should be left empty there as well.
The other thing that zminit may complain about is that all the fields in /etc/zm.conf must be filled out.
You can find more information about the database at http://www.mysql.org

Corey

Ok thanks

Hi,
i´ve installed Zmdv_2006, and followed the install Instructions step by step.
But on this point:
ZM will use these to access the MySQL database created in the next step.
Next, run "/usr/lib/zm/init/zminit"
When prompted for the MySQL admin user name enter "root" and when prompted for
a password, leave it blank and hit enter. You will see some messages as the
database is created.
a message appears:

Code: Select all

Enter MySQL Administrator username: root
Enter password:
ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)
ERROR 1062 at line 378: Duplicate entry 'admin' for key 2

Finding old version

Either this is an upgrade from a ZMliveCD install or you have a ZMliveCD and not Zmdv_2006.

So running /usr/lib/zm/init/zminit is not needed. Everything should be up to date. Is zm working?
