Low FPS and small framesize

Dear All,

I am running ZM v.1.21.4 on a Pentium 1.8Ghz (256MB memory) connected to one Sitecom IP network camera, and run into 2 problems.

Firstly, although the camera supports 640*480, I can not get this working with ZM. The source item turnes red, and when opening the stream it says "Failed to connect to server. Acces Denied". This does not happen when using 320*240 size.

Secondly, at size 320*240 the framerate is low as 1 fps or less. It used to be up to over 15 when using a USB (philips) webcam. In vain I tried all kinds of changes at the side of the camera (higher/lower compression, fixed/automatic framerates) and on the ZM side (http 1.1/1.0, ZM_HTTP_TIMEOUT, regexpres, jpg/mpg). With the mpg option the screen blanks.

Could anybody direct me to where to look for solutions?

Thanks, and kind regards,

Paul

framesize 640*480 now supported, but still at low fps

Dear Tux.

Thanks for the link. It helped a lot, as by adjusting both the parameters kernel.shmall and kernel.shmmax from /etc/sysctl.conf, I now can also use the 640*480 size. It did however not solve the low FPS rate, not in 640*480 nor in 320*240.

Further I tried to run zmc -m 1, but the zmc file is not found, although it clearly exists in the /usr/lib/zm/bin directory.

Lastly, the monitor dies after a while. The /var/log/message is:

Dec 30 23:17:04 munters zmc_m1[30226]: INF [Got TERM signal, exiting]
Dec 30 23:17:04 munters zmc_m1[30226]: ERR [Can't connect to remote camera: Interrupted system call]
Dec 30 23:17:04 munters zmc_m1[30334]: INF [Debug Level = 0, Debug Log = <none>]
Dec 30 23:17:05 munters zmc_m1[30334]: INF [Starting Capture]
Dec 30 23:17:23 munters zmc_m1[30334]: ERR [Select timed out]

Oh and by the way, my IP cam stops responding occasionaly when it is freezing cold :D

Many thanks for your suggestions and kind regards,

Paul

it sounds to me like you have a camera problem. did the cam come with any software, how you view it etc, and what fps you get then. I had a problem with blc10's locking up and ehen i moved them off a hub and onto a swith they work fine.

Hard disk filles with core. files and still low FPS.

Dear James,

Happy newyear and thanks for your reply. I checked the cameras FPS when connected directly to a laptop with software that came with it. FPS rates go up with higher compression rates and smaller sizes, up to 20 frames per second at 320*240 and maximum compression. Which is perfectly logical. I then connected to the hub, and still I got the same rates. I then tried the same with ZM and found that compression rates on the camera do not affect the FPS with ZM, but the size does. With 640*480 it stay under 1 FPS, with 320*240 under around 2,5. Further it seems to jump up and down, freeze for a while at 0 FPS, and then return again. I noted the directory /usr/lib/zm/html started to fill with core.nnnnn files (around 30000 files). I deleted the files and restarted ZM without problems, but after a while the proces started again. Have no clue why this happens. Suggestions?

Cheers,

Paul

no im afraid not your rig should be able to support 320x250 at 5 fps easily. One thing to check is that your using mjpeg not jpeg to connect the camera wuth zm

FPS still low.

Dear James,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried the mjpeg options, but this did not change anything. I guess that I best can focus on solving the issue of the core. files, and will start a different thread for this.

Thanx so far, and kind regards,

Paul
